From Mowing Lawns to 9 Figures

There's BIG money in lawn care

What’s up everyone,

A lawn care business can be more (a lot more) than a couple people, a couple mowers, and a truck.

I saw it firsthand when I visited Sean from Spencer Lawn Care with Brandon Schlichter (aka Investment Joy).

And you know what I learned? That a lawn care business can reach nine figures. Yes. 9 FIGURES.

Resources

Before we talk more about my visit to a local 8-figure lawn care business, here are some worthwhile resources to check out.

How Much Can a Lawn Care Business be Worth?

I got to see it up close.

Sean from Spencer Lawn Care didn’t just build a lawn care company. He built a machine. And if you’re in the trades, this should make you sit up and pay attention.

Sean and his wife manage 48 commercial accounts themselves. That’s already impressive. But what makes Sean different is how he’s thinking beyond mowing lawns.

He’s solving problems that most people in the industry just live with.

Here’s what I mean:

He’s now manufacturing products in Ohio for other lawn care operators. I’m talking steel equipment add-ons—like shoot blockers for mowers—that make crews more efficient, reduce cleanup time, and protect high-end property.

It’s not theory either.

He moved over 500 units last year and is aiming for 1,000 in 2025. That alone cleared six figures in revenue…and he’s just getting started.

This isn’t a guy who lucked into something. Sean bootstrapped this thing from the ground up.

Early on, he avoided debt completely because he didn’t know if it would work out. By 2015, when he saw traction, he took on small equipment loans, reinvested in the business, and started layering on complementary income streams. He made smart decisions like testing cheaper trucks before buying new, thus building real discipline into his fleet strategy.

I Saw His Garage Firsthand…

It’s packed with custom-built tools, not just for himself, but designed with other lawn pros in mind. His shoot blocker, for instance, goes for $399. But the real magic is in the time it saves.

Skip blowing off driveways. Avoid busted windows. Stay off luxury cars. It’s a classic time-for-money trade—and Sean’s winning.

And he’s not stopping at one product. He’s testing more, listening to customer feedback, and building for the long game.

One product solves a mowing problem.
Another reduces arm fatigue when trimming.

Each one addresses a pain point he’s seen thousands of times and now he’s solving them better than the big guys.

He even built out a small trade show presence. Last year was his first. This year he’s back, with more product lines and a bigger plan.

To me, Sean’s business is proof that lawn care—done right—isn’t small-time. It’s scalable, productizable, and packed with upside if you’re willing to put in the reps. He’s building a product brand off the back of a services business. That’s how real wealth is built.

In other words, there’s a lot we can all learn from his growth playbook.
